BMS College for women was established in 1964 by Dharma Prakasha Rajakarya Prasaktha Sri.B.M.Srinivasaiah. and his son B.S.Narayan under the aegis of BMS Educational Trust. The founder Principal was Sri.B.M.Krishnan, IAS. |

The college initially started with 34 students at the Pre University level. In 1966, B.A and B.Sc degree courses were introduced. In succeeding years, depending on the needs of the society, B.Com and B.B.M. courses were also introduced. Later in 1986 and 1987, new combinations with Electronics, Computer Science and Microbiology were added at degree level. During 1990 – 1991, the college celebrated its Silver Jubilee and honored meritorious students. In 1995, vocational courses in Biotechnology and Insurance were added taking assistance from UGC. In 1999, BCA Course was introduced. In 2007-08 new combinations like JPE & JPK were introduced. |

Apart from this, UGC sponsored/ self financed add on courses are offered. In a span of four decades, the students' strength has increased one hundred times from a small strength of 34 during 1964 to a strength of over 3000 students at present. |

The much awaited M.Com course is introduced in the academic year 2011-12. |

The college has a sprawling campus with 35 spacious and well ventilated lecture halls, each having a seating capacity of 120 students. There are 15 staff rooms, 2 museums, an open air auditorium, a sports centre, an administrative block, a seminar hall and a library. There is also a cafeteria on the campus. LCD and OHP facilities have been provided to make teaching more effective. The college has highly qualified faculty who impart quality education to the students. |
