MSc. Mathematics

MSc. Mathematics is a two- year (four semesters) Master Programme covering main areas of Applied and Pure Mathematics necessary to become a Modern Mathematician. First two semesters deal with different branches of Mathematics while next two semesters offer an option for students to choose three electives and specialize in them. The course also features practicals and project works. Teaching and learning process include lectures, coursework, computing and modeling projects, guest lectures, demonstrations, seminars, internships and presentations.

    Course Objective:

    Two Year Masters Programme in Mathematics aims at developing mathematical ability in students with acute and abstract reasoning.


    Two years are spread over four semesters each of which consists of 15 weeks (90 working days), a week each for mid semester and end semester examinations. In the first two semesters, focus is on the basic papers in Mathematics like Algebra, Analysis and Topology with basic applied papers like Differential Equations and Discrete Mathematics. In the final semesters, focus is on special papers and skill-based papers.Apart from the usual curriculum, additional courses on applications of Mathematics in various other fields and knowledge of computer programming will be given in each semester.


    Lectures, Seminars, Workshops, Group Discussion and Extension lectures by experts. Students will be assigned undergraduate teaching.

M.Sc Chemistry

Two-year post graduate course in Chemistry (Organic Chemistry)

1. MSc. Organic Chemistry

The first two semesters deal with different branches of chemistry followed by the specialization papers of organic chemistry along with an industrial/institutional project in the last two semesters. Admission Procedure


The Semester scheme is followed. Vacations and holidays are as per the norms of the university.
1. A student seeking admission to the college should apply in the prescribed form on or before the      specified date. Incomplete applications will not be entertained.
2. Selection of candidates will be done as per merit.
3. All admissions are provisional and subject to approval of Bangalore University.
4. The students selected should submit the following at the time of admission:

  • Statement of marks in original
  • Transfer certificate in original
  • Two recent passport size and one stamp size photo.
  • Any other relevant certificates w.r.t. income, SC/ST etc.,

5. Students coming from Universities other than Karnataka State should furnish Migration Certificate
    at the time of admission.
6. SC/ST/BT/BC and other students who claim exemption of tuition fee, laboratory fee etc., as per       government rules, should submit the latest Income Certificate in original along with an attested

  • The specializations offered in the second year are as per the Bangalore University norms.
  • The following documents should be attached to the application form:
    • Marks cards (Xerox) of 10th standard, 2nd PUC and all the Degree semesters.

  • A half day work shop on Security threats in electronic transactions" was conducted by Dr. A Kanmani Joan of arc, Professor, BharathiDasan University. Dr. Veena Bhat, Visiting faculty, UVAC, oriented the students on Mobile commerce.
  • Mr. Dinesh Prasad, Director, Novell Institute of Management trained the students on the use of statistical software packages.
  • Mr. Ravindra , Assistant Professor, AIMS, conducted a half day session on current trends in financial management.

  • Training program for administrative staff of BMS institutions was conducted on 3rd Dec, 2013, on "Enhancing Self- Proficiency" Well known and acclaimed personalities were brought in as resource persons for the program. Sri. N. Kshethrapal Rtd., Joint Chief Electoral Officer of State GOK. Spoke on KCSR rules.

PG. Dept of Commerce (M.Com) Report of Community service-Chaitanya- 2014
As a part of extended activity conducted by Mcom, The second year students were asked to render their services in any of the institutions catering to the social welfare of the community. The present 2nd Mcom students (Batch of 2013-2015) worked as teachers in government schools like Government Model primary school J.P Nagar, Government higher primary school, Paduvangere, Vidyaranya Vidya samsthe, Government higher primary school, Arehalli, Government model primary school, Attigupe, Government lower Primary school, Hosahalli and many other government schools. Some of the students have also worked in Shree Ramana Maharishi Academy for the blind. The students were exposed to a new environment through this activity and the students have received a favourable feedback from the institutions they have worked in. The department wishes to continue this activity in the coming years.
